Steve Bruce addresses speculation linking Newcastle United with Rodrigo Vilca

The club has been linked with a £250,000 move for 21-year-old Deportivo Municipal midfielder.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Premier League home game against Brighton and Hove Albion, United head coach Bruce said: “I’m not going to comment on names. You can never say never, but I’m very pleased at what we’ve done.

"We’ll see what the market throws at us in the next few weeks, because a lot of the big clubs haven’t really started yet. We’ll see what becomes available, but the business we did before the season was great for everybody.”

Newcastle have already signed Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser, Jamal Lewis and Mark Gillespie. Bruce said: “We’re a lot stronger than we were. The four or five lads who have walked through the door have made the squad bigger and better.”
