The striker, signed by Newcastle United from Bournemouth for £15million last month, has scored four goals so far this season.

Wilson netted twice in Saturday night’s 3-1 win over Burnley at St James’s Park. The 28-year-old – who combined superbly with Allan Saint-Maximin – is the first United player to score four goals in his first four Premier League appearances for the club since Les Ferdinand in 1995/96.

“When I see the amounts of money being spent, I think we’ve done a fabulous piece of business, I have to tell you,” said head coach Steve Bruce. “He’s a goalscorer and you just have to see that. Newcastle ended the weekend ninth in the Premier League with seven points.
