Steve Bruce issues Newcastle United injury update on Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser

Callum Wilson could yet line up against Chelsea at St James’s Park tomorrow.

The Newcastle United striker limped off against Southampton a fortnight ago with a hamstring problem. However, the striker is back in training ahead of the Chelsea game – and is keen to play.

Winger Ryan Fraser, meanwhile, is definitely out with the hamstring problem he reported on the eve of the club’s visit to the St Mary’s Stadium.

“Ryan won’t make it, unfortunately, but Callum has got a chance,” said Bruce. “If there’s any risk whatsoever, he won’t play. He’s trained the last two days. We’ll see how he is today, and the boy wants to play. We have to make sure they’re 100% right.”

Callum Wilson leaves the pitch with a hamstring injury.

Winger Matt Ritchie and midfielder Jonjo Shelvey are also back in training ahead of the Premier League game, while midfielder Miguel Almiron will be assessed today after returning to Tyneside yesterday from international duty with Paraguay.
