Steve Bruce names player who 'kept Newcastle United in game' against Liverpool
Joe Willock got the headlines at Anfield after yet another goal off the bench.
But Steve Bruce was quick to point to the contribution of Martin Dubravka at the other end of the pitch after Newcastle United’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool.
Dubravka denied Mohamed Salah – who gave the home side a third-minute lead – and Sadio Mane before the break, and the goalkeeper’s performance ensured that Newcastle were still in the game when the Dwight Gayle set up Willock in the 95th minute.
"You know, when you come to Anfield, that your goalkeeper’s got to play well,” said head coach Bruce. “He did that. We were sloppy at times, but fair play to the goalkeeper. In certain periods, he’s produced some really good saves, which obviously kept us in the game.”
Newcastle ended the weekend 16th in the Premier League and nine points above the relegation zone with five games left to play.
