Steve Bruce nominated for Premier League manager of the month

STEVE BRUCE on the nomination: “The team is what puts you in the situation, and the team I have around me. It’s a big pat on the back for them too. Fair play to the people who work for me and the team who have performed very well over the past month."

“A lot of people wrote the team and myself off in the first few weeks. I’m delighted for everybody we’re a Premier League team again and that was the first job to be done. Now, we’ve given ourselves the platform to see if we can mount a challenge and get in the top ten. If we can, that would be hugely satisfying. “It’s vitally important, my job is to keep them focused on it. We’ve only got two or three weeks to the finish and we’ve got some big games coming up against some big teams. It’s still all to play for. The challenge for all of us is to make sure we keep the focus like we had the other day. Let’s enjoy the next few weeks and see where they take us.”

STEVE BRUCE: “I was delighted for Bentaleb, Lazaro and Emil Krafth who has had to wait patiently. They’ve all came here to prove themselves in the Premier League and their performance the other night was great to see.”

Sean Longstaff a big doubt for Sunday

STEVE BRUCE: "I don’t think Sean Longstaff will make it [for Sunday]. We’re waiting on Joelinton and Jamaal Lascelles has got a nasty knock to his ankle so we’ll see how he is. We’ve still got another 48 hours until the game so let’s hope it’s good news.”

Steve Bruce gives NUFC injury update and discusses the future of ASM & Almiron

“People enjoy watching him (ASM). He’s certainly different, he’s certainly blessed with natural ability that most people haven’t got. He’s already a fans’ favourite. He’s got all the ability in the world to be a top, top player.”

“We can’t help that at Newcastle (talk of players leaving. Even with a result we’ve got, there’s still a negative story. He signed a six-year deal in the summer.”

Almiron agent talks up exit

Miguel Almiron’s a target for Atletico Madrid, according to his agent.

Almiron, signed by Newcastle United from Atlanta United in January last year, scored his seventh goal of the season in Wednesday night’s 4-1 Premier League win over Bournemouth.

And Daniel Campos, Almiron’s representative, has spoken about interest from Diego Simeone’s side in the 26-year-old midfielder, who, he adds, has a “high” release clause at St James’s Park.

"We’re in contact with the people of Atletico, with the director, but nothing official.” said Campos.

“Even before his departure for Newcastle (from Atlanta), he was already on the radar at the club. It doesn’t shock me that Miguel’s in the interest of various big teams. We have to see if Newcastle want to negotiate a departure. Miguel's release clause is high. Miguel’s a player that fits perfectly in Simeone’s system.”

Newcastle United set to battle Chelsea for PSG’s Real Madrid loan man - report

Newcastle United are reportedly keen to sign Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, who has spent this season on loan with Spanish champions-in-waiting Real Madrid.

According to Le10 Sport, the 27-year-old France international will be made available by the PSG’s Qatari owners - and United, along with Chelsea are keen.

Any move would be a surprise, though, given the standing Martin Dubravka is held in by the United hierarchy.

Will this man get a break this weekend - or will Steve Bruce roll the dice again after his THREE assists at the Vitality Stadium?
