Steve Bruce doesn’t think this afternoon’s Premier League clash at the Hawthorns is a ‘must-win’ but try telling that to Newcastle United fans.
Win or draw and the Magpies will again prevent Fulham from climbing out the Premier League bottom three, but defeat opens the door for Scott Parker’s men, who take on Liverpool this afternoon.

Miles Starforth’s 90-minute verdict
The worrying thing was that Newcastle just never looked like scoring against one of the poorest teams in the Premier League. This had the look of a Championship fixture, and unless the team quickly improves, it will be a Championship fixture next season. Somehow, Newcastle must find a way to win without Wilson, Saint-Maximin and Almiron.

How’s the days off, did ye say?
Miles Starforth’s FT analysis
And that’s it. 0-0
No league goal between the two of them since October you say?
Decent break from United - but no quality at the right end of the park!
Chance for NUFC. SAVED!
First change - and it’s an interesting one!
Should be 1-0 West Brom
Here we go again...
Liam Kennedy’s HT player ratings
Martin Dubravka - Has dealt with everything that has so far come his way - 6
Emil Krafth - Has seen plenty of the ball but has shown a lack of quality with it - 5
Jamaal Lascelles - Solid enough - 6
Ciaran Clark - Has his hands full with Diagne - 6
Paul Dummett - Looks a much more solid defensive unit with Dummett in it - 6
Jonjo Shelvey - Some very good defensive work in the sitting role. A few too many long balls, mind - 6
Jeff Hendrick - Tidy enough plugging gaps - 5
Isaac Hayden - Similar to Hendrick, rarely involved as the game has passed him by overhead, but has done OK - 5
Joe Willock - Has dropped into some clever spaces but not nearly enough of it - 5
Joelinton - A strong, physical opening but has seen little of the ball as the game went on - 6
Ryan Fraser - A threat down the left - 6
Miles Starforth’s HT thoughts
Poor half from Newcastle. They haven’t created nearly enough. It’s scrappy, as expected, but Bruce has a bit more quality in his starting XI. That quality hasn’t yet been brought to bear. The best chance fell to Joelinton, but, typically, he opted to pass rather than shoot. Worryingly, Newcastle don’t look like scoring.
