Steve Bruce reveals contract meeting at Newcastle United

Matty Longstaff, 19, is out of contract at the end of the season, while a new deal for Sean, his elder brother, has been on the agenda for almost a year.

Asked about the situation, 22-year-old Sean said: “For me and Matty, we’re waiting for the club, really. It’s up to them what they want to do.”

Bruce has previously spoken about an “impasse” in discussions with Matty, who broke into the first-team squad this season. He said: “It’s a concern for us all, of course it is. I hope we can get that tied up, I really do.”

Asked if there had been any progress ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League home game against Burnley, he said: “Not that I’m aware. There is a meeting scheduled for next week.”
