Steve Bruce reveals key details of Mike Ashley transfer meeting at Newcastle United

Bruce this week met the club’s owner for talks about this month’s transfer window.

And United's head coach said: “It went very well. He’s fully supportive. We’ve got one or two plates spinning and hope we can add to the squad by the end of the month. We’ve got one or two targets in mind.

“There’s funds available if we need it. That’s always been the case. He was interested in who we’re looking at and which areas.

“We’ve had one or two in mind and we’ll see if we can pull them off. There’s a bit of competition. We’re trying everything we possibly can.

“He’s fully supportive of the idea of trying to improve the squad. We buy quality not quantity. That’s got to be the mantra. We’ve got to bring that bit of quality that makes us better.”
