A summer of transfer activity and largely fully-fit squad means the Magpies head coach has one or two big decisions to make when naming his starting line-up for the clash with Nottingham Forest.
Steve Cooper’s newly-promoted side will be a tough test for Newcastle who are looking to carry on the momentum they forged in a fantastic end to their last campaign.
The Magpies have lost just once in the league at home this calendar year and will want to get off to a winning start in-front of their own fans on Saturday afternoon.
St James’s Park will be rocking once again - but will supporters get to catch a glimpse of their new signings? Or will Howe stick with his tried and tested system?
Here, we take a look at the Newcastle United starting XI that could face Nottingham Forest on Saturday:

9. RW: Miguel Almiron
Whilst you can never read too much into pre-season, there’s no denying that Almiron’s form has surely put him top of the list for the right-wing spot. A good end to the last campaign, as well as six goals and two assists during the off-season, means the Paraguayan could be given the nod by Howe when Forest come to town. Photo: Stu Forster

10. ST: Callum Wilson
Wilson reminded everyone of his class when he returned from injury at the end of last season and with a full pre-season behind him, should be ready to kickstart the new campaign in style. Photo: Stu Forster

11. LW: Allan Saint-Maximin
This season could be the making of Saint-Maximin at Newcastle United and with a good display against Athletic Club behind him, the winger will want to show off all his talent against Steve Cooper’s side. Photo: Stu Forster
