But just how much is every Magpies player worth?
Here we delve into the statistics from that original survey and reveal how the value of United’s £205million squad is actually broken down, according to transfermarkt.
Some of the values are fair – but some are way off the mark. We start with the goalkeepers...
5. Florian Lejeune - £7.2m
The Frenchman, when fit, has been a class act for United. They signed him for nearly £9m, there's absolutely no chance the player has fallen in value. | Getty Images Photo: Stu Forster
6. Fabian Schar - £7.2
This has to be some kind of joke. The player was snapped up for £3m, but he's worth way more than that now, having established himself as one of the best ball-playing - and goal-scoring - defenders in England. | Getty Images Photo: Catherine Ivill
7. Federico Fernandez - £6.3m
Very unlucky not to be in the United starting XI. Probably the best 'central' defender at the club. His problem is that the skipper sits ahead of him in his suited role. A fair value given his age. | Getty Images Photo: HECTOR RETAMAL
8. Ciaran Clark - £5.4m
Would be an outstanding buy for any team in the division below - and at this price would represent great value. Never lets United down when called upon. | Getty Images Photo: Ian MacNicol
