The world governing body have recommended that all contracts set to expire on June 30 be automatically extended until the 2019/20 season finishes.
But what does that mean for Newcastle? Here, we take a look at the players set to be handed an automatic extension to their current deals under these new plans:
1. ROB ELLIOT
While he has scarcely been involved in the first-team squad this term, having found himself behind Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow in the pecking order, Elliot offers a reliable back-up option - and will continue to do so until the season ends. Photo: Ian MacNicol
2. JAVIER MANQUILLO
The versatile full-back was set to see his terms expire on June 30, but under these plans will remain at St James’s Park until at least the culmination of the current season. Photo: LINDSEY PARNABY
3. JACK COLBACK
Colback won’t be involved for Steve Bruce’s side given he was omitted from their 25-man Premier League squad, but looks set to remain on the club’s books until the 2019/20 campaign is finished. Photo: Alex Livesey
4. Matty Longstaff
While negotiations over a new deal have yet to reach a positive conclusion, Longstaff Jr will remain on Tyneside for at least a few more months under these plans. Could that extra time give Newcastle an edge in agreeing a new deal? Photo: Ian MacNicol
