The unlikely Newcastle United record that Joelinton could achieve against Liverpool this weekend

Joelinton’s first season at Newcastle United has been mixed to say the least – but he could find himself in esteemed company if he features against Liverpool this weekend

The £40million summer signing has netted just four times since his arrival at St James’s Park having struggled in front of goal.

And the Brazilian striker has been left on the bench in recent weeks, with Steve Bruce preferring Dwight Gayle as the lone striker.

But Joelinton has been used – either as a starter or from the bench – in every one of Newcastle United’s top flight games thus far this season, meaning he could be in-line to achieve an unlikely club record.

For if the striker features at any stage against Liverpool, he will become only the third outfield player to have played in every match for Newcastle in a Premier League season, following in the footsteps of Gary Speed (2003/04) and Georginio Wijnaldum (2015/16).
