Yedlin missed last night’s 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa and Monday’s 3-0 loss to Arsenal, and Steve Bruce revealed why he wasn’t involved after the defeat at Villa Park which left the relegation-threatened club fifth-bottom of the Premier League at the halfway point of the season.

Asked why Yedlin – who had been enjoying a run in the team – hadn’t featured, United's head coach said: “There’s an issue with his visa.”

The club are looking to quickly resolve administrative issue, which is understood to concern USA international’s work permit.

Bruce added: “I don’t know how quickly it will be resolved, but certainly there’s an issue there, and we'll let you know when hes available.”

Yedlin, out of contract in the summer, had demanded “clarity” from club over his future earlier this week, having been made available for transfer last summer by Bruce.

"At this moment (I want) some clarity over whether Newcastle want me to stay or whether I can go," the 27-year-old told CBS Sports.

"Whatever it is, it's something that needs to be talked about pretty quickly, because there's six months left on my contract. If I’m going to leave Newcastle, there's steps I need to take in terms of talking to other teams and things like that.

"There's been no clarity. My agent has reached out to people at Newcastle, and they've responded back saying 'yes, we'll call you', and there are no calls back. That has been quite frustrating.”
