South Shields town centre car park set for a three-month long closure
South Tyneside Council has revealed that a South Shields town centre car park will be shut for three months.
A South Shields town centre car park is set to be temporarily closed as preparation work for the relocation of South Tyneside College continues.
The Word car park, on River Drive, will be closed to motorists from Monday, November 16, until Saturday, February 27.
South Tyneside Council has stated that the closure is needed to allow for a safe working area whole contractors carry out renovation work to the former BT building next to the car park.
It will be occupied by students at the marine school and will feature a mix of en-suite bedrooms, studio apartments and shared spaces.
Alterative parking is available at other nearby South Shields town centre car parks throughout the closure period.
