The Premier League, via their solicitors, responded three hours prior to their 4pm deadline on Tuesday asking for an extra 14 days to put together a detailed response to NCSL’s anti-competition claims.

But it is understood that the Premier League’s request has been knocked back, with the belief that they have had more than enough time to address the issue.

Here's how passionate Newcastle United fans reacted to the latest news on Twitter – simply scroll down to take a look:

@DiscoDaveToon: “@NCSL1892 you are doing a great job! No matter what happens we are behind you! Go get them.”

@AndrewReay4: “What a great letter it sums up our feelings and bemusement of the whole process that is in essence a delaying tactic hoping the Saudis would walk away! Well done to those involved.”

@Cosseycj: “Wow!!!! Mr Stein has my support whole heartedly. Looks like the EPL are trying to kick the can down the road again in the hope that this goes away. We need to hold them to as count, fantastic well-drafted letter.

@gazrob99: “My issue with this is unless a LBA was sent in August that timeframe doesn't really matter, if it was only sent last week then that is when any legal action would start from? I'm 100% behind them but just personally think mixed messages coming out.”

@jchaytor16: “Good decision, they've had more than enough time.”

@DavidLi65476220: “The only hope we have that this doesn't drag on for months or longer is if an agreement is met outside of legal action. If this goes to court then I think it's over from a takeover point if view and will just become a compensation piece for Ashley. Let's hope its resolved outside.”

@scully161280: “That's fantastic. Brilliantly worded and echoes the voice of every #NUFC fan.”
