The Gazette yesterday revealed a new short-term “promotion” between the club and Barbour International.
It is one of South Shields-based Barbour’s clothing brands.
And Steve Bruce's players reported to St James’s Park for this evening's game against Chelsea wearing black jackets made by the firm.
Sports Direct adverts in the press rooms at St James’s Park and training ground have been covered over by Barbour International stickers.
