This is what Steve Bruce is looking for in Newcastle United's next signing

Bruce says what he wants from a recruit is “pretty straightforward”.

Steve Nickson, the club’s head of recruitment, is looking at potential targets ahead of January’s transfer window, though Bruce has moved to manage expectations on Tyneside.

Asked what qualities he looks for in a player, head coach Bruce said: “I think it's pretty straightforward for me. You have to be willing to have a go.

“Physicality is huge. Physically, you have to have the ability to run, especially in the Premier League. I've learnt that over the years. They have to be a bit genuine, they have to be honest and they have to have the ability to work hard for the team. That's the sort of player I suppose we would all like, and if they have a bit of ability, which they must have as well, then good.”
