The takeover, which is funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, is with the Premier League for approval amid objections from Amnesty International and beIN Sports.

If the deal is given the go-ahead, it will come with two key deals up for renewal. The club’s long-running association with Puma is due to end this summer along with the three-year shirt sponsorship deal with Fun88.

Puma replaced Adidas as kit manufacturer in 2010/11 following Newcastle’s promotion to the Premier League. Adidas had made United’s shirts since the mid-1990s, when the club was challenging high up the table under Kevin Keegan.

The Puma deal is worth a reported £6.5million a year to the club, with the Premier League’s top six – and Southampton and Everton – said to bank more from their kit contracts.

An one-year extension with Puma has been reported, but not announced, and a leaked image of an away jersey for next season has already appeared online.

However, new ownership would bring other major manufacturers to the table when it comes to deciding who will make the club’s 2021/22 shirts.

Fun88, meanwhile, replaced Wonga three years ago. The sponsorship deal was said to be the biggest in the club’s history.

The controversial Wonga sponsorship was reportedly worth £24million to Newcastle, and the Fun88 deal was said to be more lucrative to the club.
