Northern League: Spence warns table toppers Boldon CA after Tow Law win
Boldon CA moved to the top of the Northern League Division Two table with a win at Tow Law Town.
Boldon CA joint-manager Chris Spence has warned his side there is ‘still a long way to go’ in the race for promotion after Saturday’s win at Northern League Division Two rivals Tow Law Town.
After claiming an FA Vase win against FC St Helens last weekend and a midweek league win against Durham United, Boldon were determined to round off a historic week in style by landing what would have to be a hard-earned win at Ironworks Road.

That was exactly what they did as goals from Luke Page and Liam Thear put their side in control and ensured they landed all three points despite Reece Brown give the hosts some hopes of snatching some reward with a late goal. Jarrow’s win at Billingham Town also meant Boldon replaced the latter at the top of the table - but nobody is getting too carried away just yet as Spence looked at what lies ahead in the promotion race.
He told The Gazette: “There is still a long way to go and it’s still a long season - but if we can keep the momentum going, we can be there or thereabouts and that is what we want. Getting through Christmas is key for everyone in the league because I honestly think the division doesn’t really take shape until after Christmas. That’s always a stumbling block for some teams and we have to make sure we aren’t one of them. Once you get past Christmas, you are almost on the final straight with how the season plays out so we will know more about where we should be once we get through that period.”
