South Shields FC secure loan deal for Championship winger
South Shields FC have added another new face to their squad ahead of the new National League North season.
South Shields FC have boosted their options in attacking areas by taking Stoke City winger Chinonso Chibueze on loan until January 2027.
The Mariners have already completed the signings of TNS left-back Jordan Marshall, midfielders Khanya Leshabela and Toby Onanaye and forwards Adam Campbell and Sam Ashford over the last month as Mike Williamson prepares for his first season in charge.

The deal to sign Potters youngster Chibueze marks a first move into the loan market for the Mariners as they have secured the services of a player that made his senior debut for the Championship club in a Carabao Cup second round defeat against Bradford City during the first month of last season. The 20-year-old joined the Potters from the youth setup at Premier League giants Chelsea during the summer of 2024 after featuring alongside the likes of Middlesbrough midfielder Leo Castledine, Everton winger Tyrique George and England Under-21 star Josh Acheampong during his time with the Blues.
Chibueze has made himself a regular in the Stoke Under-21s setup over the last two seasons and he scored four goals and provided one assist in 20 appearances in Premier League 2 last season. However, he will now look to make an impact during his half-season loan spell with South Shields after agreeing to spend the next four months at Mariners Park.
He has impressed during the early stages of pre-season after scoring the only goal of the game in their pre-season friendly win against the Mariners’ National League North rivals Chester - and he believes he now has an opportunity to show what he can do to South Shields supporters as he looks to carry that momentum into him time working under Williamson.
Speaking after agreeing to join the Mariners, the young winger said: "I’m delighted to sign for the club, as soon as I heard about the interest, I was buzzing to sign. The style of play suits me down to a tee, and I watched a lot of last season, so I know how passionate the fanbase is. I’m a fast, energetic winger who likes to get on the ball and score goals, and I can’t wait to show the fans what I can do."
