Phil Parkinson admitted his interest in the Bristol City youngster over a fortnight ago, but has admitted there has been “no progress” over a potential move for the 19-year-old.

Semenyo is one of a number of options being considered as the Black Cats look to strengthen their attacking options in the coming weeks, with Burton Albion’s Liam Boyce also a target.

And Bristol City are yet to sanction an exit for Semenyo, with reports in the South West suggesting he may be retained until the Robins can sign a striker of their own – having been denied the chance to take Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah on loan.

Doncaster Rovers are also interested in Semenyo, with Bristol Live claiming that the Keepmoat Stadium would be the player’s preferred destination.

His club, however, prefer the financial package on offer from the Black Cats.
