Ex-Sunderland striker set for shock switch to League One rivals

Former Sunderland striker James Vaughan is set for a shock move to League One, according to reports.

The former Everton forward spent just six months at the Stadium of Light during a largely underwhelming spell, netting just twice in 27 appearances before joining Wigan Athletic.

His career has petered out somewhat since that move, however, and he is now plying his trade for League Two side Bradford City.

But the Telegraph and Argus claim that a surprising move to League One could be in the offing, with Tranmere Rovers reportedly lining-up a loan move for the 31-year-old.

It remains unclear whether there is hope that a deal could be complete in time for Sunderland’s trip to Tranmere tomorrow (Wednesday, January 29).

Vaughan lined-up against the Black Cats for Portsmouth last season, but failed to make an impact as Sunderland progressed through the play-off semi-final.
