The midfielder signed a contract extension last summer, with an agent involved in the negotiations.
An agent was also involved in the cancellation of Darron Gibson's contract. He went on to join Wigan Athletic.
The signing of McLaughlin meant Sunderland had to pay an agent fee - but it certainly seems to have been money well spent.
It's a similar case with fans' favourite Maguire who, although a free transfer, saw an agent used in negotiations with Sunderland.
Rodwell's disastrous spell on Wearside was brought to an end in the summer, with the money spent on an agent saving the Black Cats further outgoings in the long-term.
Similarly to Ethan Robson, Molyneux's contract extension saw an intermediary involved.
Sunderland also had to shell out on an agent fee to land the Turkish centre back over the summer months.
This agent fee was another case of money well spent, with Flanagan impressing during his first campaign for Sunderland.
An agent was also involved in the capture of McGeouch, who was in high demand after a stellar season at Hibernian.
Another free transfer, but another deal which had an agent involved.
