Darlington have swooped for South Shields duo.

Goalkeeper Boney and midfielder Lowe officially completed month-long loan moves to the National League North club on Wednesday morning and could make their first appearances for the Quakers when they travel to Kettering Town on Saturday.

The double deal sees the total number of Mariners players to secure temporary moves into non-league’s second tier up to five after striker Jason Gilchrist joined York City and defensive duo Blair Adams and Dillon Morse moved to North East neighbours Gateshead.

South Shields have already confirmed that all five players will return to the club when or if their Northern Premier League campaign resumes in the future.

Quakers manager Armstrong admitted that the Mariners players bring “quality and experience” that you might not get with other loan additions and believes that all parties will benefit from the move.

He told The Gazette: “When you look at their (South Shields) squad, as a full-time outfit, they are professional players and you can’t get quality like that elsewhere.

“You won’t get the quality and experience with under-23s players and it was why bringing in Myles and Nathan is a no-brainer

“You aren’t just bringing them in for the experience, they know everything about this league, they have played at this level or higher and they are top quality players.

“Nathan trained with us last night and was outstanding.

“He has a little bit of everything as a midfielder and he is going to be a valuable asset to our squad.

“We lost Melvyn Minter back to Harrogate Town and we needed to get someone in to compete with Jonny Saltmer.

“To get South Shields’ number one is a big move for us, even if it is just on loan.

“They will be massively important to us because we have a lot of games coming up and they’ll get minutes, we will be playing every Saturday and Tuesday.

“The two lads will get more experience at our level and then they will be fit and firing when they return to South Shields so it’s a move that works for everyone.”
