Jarrow FC chairman calls for the community's support ahead of play-off semi-final

Jarrow chairman Kevin Mullen has urged the local community to get behind the Perth Green club as they look to take another step towards a historic promotion this weekend.

Kennie Malia’s side have secured a Northern League Division Two play-off for the second consecutive season and they will host FC Hartlepool on Saturday with the victors taking on either Yarm & Eaglescliffe or Seaham Red Star in the final.

Jarrow have forged a reputation as one of the best supported sides in their division throughout the season - and Mullen is hopeful they can attract another strong attendance for their biggest game of the season so far.

He told The Gazette: “We want the local community to come and support us. We have the stalwarts that are there every single game and the travelling support we get is phenomenal.

“There is a coach at every away game, there’s a coach that leaves the local pub and it’s full every single game and we get to away games and the opposition are always appreciative of the support we take.

“But I want people to come and support us, to experience this level of football, it’s honest football, the lads give everything and we know they will enjoy it and hopefully they can help us get over the line in the semi-final.”

After securing promotion into the Northern League as Wearside League champions in 2017, Jarrow have firmly established themselves within Division Two over the last nine years.

Last season’s play-off final defeat against Thornaby was the closest they have come to a first-ever promotion into Division One - and Mullen has insisted the club are ready to take the jump if they can go one better this time around.

“I think we would be ready for Division One,” he explained. “We haven’t stretched ourselves too far and we have looked after the sustainability of the club because that’s what it’s all built on.

“The fans are ready, they are excited and the players, management and committee are too because it’s a huge step and we are ready and deserve a shot at it.”
