Arron Thompson and Callum Guy have both penned one-year deals with the Mariners as they look to build on a positive season in the club’s youth set-up.

The duo have both earned first-team call-ups in the past and will now look to stamp their authority on the senior squad as Shields embark on another promotion push.

And the news is further recognition for the fine work done by the club’s academy, which has seen the production line go from strength to strength in recent years.

Joint manager Graham Fenton said: "We're delighted that Arron and Callum have agreed to sign for the club for at least the next year.

"Both players have thoroughly deserved their opportunity to join the first-team squad through their performances over the course of their time with the Academy.

"We feel both have progressed excellently over the last 12 months and we have high hopes that over the next year they will be really pushing towards first-team places."

"They both know they've still got work to do to get there but they have the attitude and mentality to put the effort in to get their rewards.

"They will further boost the competition for places in midfield areas and they know that the players who are ahead of them at the moment are very, very good players, but I'm sure they will give it everything they've got to progress and earn their right to play in the first-team."
