5. Anna Reay, Customs House, South Shields, February 14
Anna Reay will be performing at Customs House, South Shields, on February 14. She is delighted to return to her native North East to bring her show to the Customs House. A sell out show when last performed in the region at the Sage Gateshead in 2016, Anna will once again be joined by her band of talented musicians and some special guests. They'll be performing classics by Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston, Nina Simone, Eva Cassidy, Cilla Black, Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, Maria Callas, Katherine Jenkins, Peggy Lee and many more. 6. Check out the new exhibition at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens
A new exhibition opened at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens this month. Running until May 10, Received Wisdom features pieces by Lubaina Himid - a pioneer of the Black Arts movement in the 1980s who was awarded the famous Turner Prize in 2017 – alongside work by artists including Amikam Toren, Phyllida Barlow, John Sheehy, Elisabeth Vellacott and more. The major contemporary British art exhibition is the first in a three-year partnership with the acclaimed Arts Council Collection after Sunderland was chosen as one of just three places nationwide to be part of the Collection’s National Partnership Programme. 7. Bright Lights exhibition, Arts Centre Washington
This year’s annual Youth Arts Exhibition has gone on show as it shines a light on artistic talent of the future. Entitled Bright Lights, the exhibition is now open at Arts Centre Washington and will be running until March 14. Young people aged 11 to 19 from the Sunderland and Washington area were invited to submit their artwork to be displayed in the exhibition. Photo: David Allan
8. Sasha DiGiulian talk, Sage Gateshead, February 14
Adidas athlete, Sasha DiGiulian, is one of the world’s best climbers, with multiple first ascents and 28 First Female Ascents to her name, including a route on the North Face of the Eiger, and is the first North American woman to climb the hardest sport grade achieved by a female. She'll be giving a talk at Sage Gateshead on February 14. In Beyond the Comfort Zone, Sasha will tell her favourite climbing stories and present her film of the history-making ascent of The Trilogy, where she became the first female, and only the second person, to climb the Rocky Mountain triple big walls in a single season.
