5. The Manfreds, Customs House, South Shields, March 14
The Manfreds prepare to bring their Hits, Jazz and Blues Tour to The Customs House, South Shields on March 14. The group features several key members of the 1960s Manfred Mann line-up, including original members Paul Jones, Mike Hugg and Tom McGuinness. They reformed under their current guise in 1991, following a very successful and enjoyable reunion for Tom’s 50 th birthday celebration. The trio are joined by Rob Townsend, formerly of Family, on drums, Marcus Cliffe on bass and Simon Currie on saxophone and flute. 6. Abba tribute, Billingham Forum, March 14
Thank You For The Music, Abba tribute is at Billingham Forum on March 14. The tribute show brings all of Abba's number one hits to the stage. The hugely popular show, combines the unmistakable harmonies, colourful costumes, and dazzling performances by an all-star cast that will have you thanking Abba for the music again and again. 7. Youth Arts, Arts Centre Washington, until March 14
This year’s annual Youth Arts Exhibition at Arts Centre Washington is on show until March 14. Entitled Bright Lights, young people aged 11 to 19 from the Sunderland and Washington area were invited to submit their artwork to be displayed in the exhibition. This year the arts centre received around 90 entries spanning textile art, mixed media sculptures, digital photography, painting and video, from schools, youth groups and individuals from all over the city. 8. Sunderland Symphony Orchestra, March 14
Sunderland Symphony Orchestra will begin the spring season in style with a concert of classics. The musicians will perform Marching & Waltzing at 7.30pm on March 14 at West Park Church in Stockton Road, city centre. Marking the opening of their 20th season, they’ll perform a selection of classical orchestral marches and waltzes, including the Swan Lake Waltz from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s timeless orchestral ballet and the much-loved Blue Danube by Johann Strauss ‘junior’. The concert will features many well-known and popular pieces of music including, the Radetsky March by Johann Strauss ‘senior’; Jazz Suite Waltz by Dmitri Shostakovitch; Dambusters March by Eric Coates; Ralph Vaughan Williams Folk Song Suite.
