We’ve rounded up some of the best ones.
9. Toy, NGCA, Sunderland, until April 19
A model world featuring mythical creatures fighting between the buildings has roared to life at a Sunderland art gallery. Chad McCail has spent two years developing the new work, entitled Toy, which has premiered at Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art. It’s the first time the artist has created a sculpture of this kind for a gallery-scale installation. The work has been painstakingly created in everyday materials to craft an array of details. The cityscape contains many of the different types of institutions we encounter in everyday life, such as a school, hospital, workplaces, housing, an airport, abbatoir where food is produced, and military site. 10. Chris Ramsey, Customs House, March 12-13
Chris Ramsey will be performing on his home town stage at Customs House, South Shields, on March 12-13. The Work in Progress dates will be an hour of new gags, stories and mucking around ahead of his new tour. It's a 60 minute show with no interval and there was limited availability on the Friday night at the time of going to print. Photo: Stu Norton
