This year one of the region’s most famous events returns to its usual route from Newcastle to the seafront at South Shields.
With the old route back in place, the amount of options of where to watch the race in person has increased and there are plenty of options across Newcastle, Gateshead and South Tyneside to take a spot for the day to cheer on family and friends as well as the world’s best athletes.

These are some of the top places to watch the 2023 Great North Run along its famous route.

9. The final corner
The corner of Redwell Lane and Coast Road is the final corner of the race. Runners will head towards the coast before taking a left and this is the spot where they know they're nearly finished. It may be worth heading down just to see the relief on some faces! Photo: Google

10. Coast Road
You may need to get down early, but there is no better place to watch the Great North Run than near the finish line. Seeing the top elite athletes finish right through to seeing families reunited after the half marathon is wonderful while the music and celebrations keep everyone in a great mood!
