The Ocean Road venue owned by the Little Mix star has confirmed that it will not be reopening this year following the annoucement that the North East will enter Tier 3 restrictions when the latest coronavirus lockdown ends on December 2.

Under Tier 3 rules hospitality settings - such as bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants – will remain closed. But they are permitted to continue sales by takeaway, click-and-collect, drive-through or delivery services.

Like many bars and restaurants in South Tyneside and across the UK, the government’s latest restrictions have come as a huge blow to the popular venue.

As a result, Arbeia has now announced that it will remain closed until the New Year even if restrictions are lifted just before Christmas.

The bar has been closed since October after it said that ‘tough times’ meant it was no longer possible to stay open.

"The coronavirus has brought the hospitality industry and people of South Shields closer together, and we hope everyone stays safe and well over the coming weeks and festive period.

"As always we want to thank everyone who has supported us this year.”

A reopening date has not yet been confirmed, but the bar said that customers can support it through this difficult time by buying Arbeia gift vouchers through its Facebook page which can also be used at its sister nightclub, Industry, when both venues reopen.

A message shared on the Arbeia Bar Facebook page thanked customers for their support over the last year and said that it looks forward to welcoming back punters in 2021 should restrictions allow.

It said: “We would like to take this opportunity to again thank all of our customers for all of your incredible support this year, as per new government guidance this means we won’t be reopening this year.

“See you in 2021 for the best reopening South Shields has ever seen.”
