The business is also offering a 20% discount for NHS staff and care workers as a small gesture of thanks to our key workers during this difficult time.

And the news will be sure to go down a treat with those who have been missing the simple pleasure of fish and chips as they walk along the beach for their daily exercise.

In a statement on its Facebook page The Blue Marlin said: “To our loyal and valued customers, as of May 2 we are opening for takeout only, therefore we unfortunately can not let customers sit in and eat.

“We are open from 11am- 5pm.

“We are following UK Government Guidelines and we are practicing vigorous hygiene procedures to ensure the safety of our customers and staff.

“Stay safe and keep two metres apart.”

And the news comes as fellow South Shields fish and chip business Colmans announces that it will be reopening for a click and collect or delivery service so that customers can enjoy its food from the safety of their homes.
