VPD is a new excise duty on vaping products and also brings extra requirements for businesses selling vaping products, as a measure aimed at reducing youth access to tobacco and vaping products.

It will be charged a flat rate of £2.20 per 10 millilitres of vaping liquid, regardless of how much nicotine is contained in the product.

Anyone selling tobacco or vaping products needs be aware of upcoming changes. The measure is aimed at reducing the affordability and appeal of vaping products, particularly among young people and non-smokers.

The council’s Trading Standards team is sending letters to retailers across South Tyneside, providing guidance and practical information to help them prepare.

The council says: “If you sell tobacco or vaping products, please look out for this information and ensure you understand the new requirements ahead of the changes coming into effect.”
