Ayoze Perez issues statement after 'worst days' as a footballer
Perez took to Twitter after the season-ending 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at St James's Park.
The result was too late to save Newcastle, who ended the season 18th in the Premier League.
Perez indicated after the Tottenham match that he will stay and play in the Championship next season.
And the 22-year-old also issued a statement on Twitter.
Perez said: "The last days have been the worst days since I'm a football player. We have fought until the end but it wasn't enough.
"We, the players, have to say sorry to all the fans. You are top supporters and deserve to be in the Premier League.
"With the team already relegated, the fans were amazing at St James', I just can say THANKS Toon Army. Will be back. Howay the fans."
Perez signed a new long-term deal at St James's Park early this year.
