Bomb squad called to Sandhaven beach in South Shields after object found on the sand
A Northumbria Police cordon is in place at Sandhaven beach in South Shields after an object was discovered in the sand by a member of the public.
Three officers are on the beach manning a 100-metre cordon around where the object was found, with the bomb disposal squad from Catterick said to be en route. Northumbria Police confirmed on its Twitter account that the force was informed of the incident at around 1.45pm on Saturday, September 28. It is not known what the object is.
