Budget airline extends Scandinavian route from Newcastle Airport through winter

Summer holidays are nearly here, but some airlines are already welcoming winter bookings.

Newcastle International Airport’s link to Copenhagen has been extended into the site’s winter schedule.

Services will run twice per week, flying every Friday and Sunday from October until to January 2027.

Flights are available to book now, with one-way fares starting from £49.60.

Norwegian Airlines launched the route in May 2025 and services will now continue through a second winter, allowing North East locals to enjoy a Scandinavian build-up to Christmas.

Denmark’s capital is well known for its winter options including festive markets and an array of open ice rinks.

Chris Ion, Head of Aviation Development at Newcastle Airport, said: “Copenhagen continues to be one of our most popular city-break destinations, so it’s fantastic to see Norwegian extend this route into the winter season.

"This investment gives our passengers even more choice when planning festive getaways and the opportunity to experience Copenhagen at its most magical.

“It also opens the door to welcome more Danish visitors to North East England over the winter season to experience everything our region has to offer."

Sara Neergaard, Country Director at Norwegian Denmark, added: “Strong customer demand has given us the confidence to extend our Newcastle–Copenhagen route into the winter season.

“We continue to see growing interest in city-break travel, and Copenhagen is a destination that has so much to offer during the festive months.

“We’re pleased to provide our customers with more choice and flexibility while further strengthening the connection between North East England and Denmark.”
