Jarrow thug attacked two friends before chanting Tommy Robinson songs as he racially abused a police officer
A thug attacked two of his friends before chanting Tommy Robinson songs as he racially abused the police officer who arrested him.
David Corkin, 54, went for drinks with a neighbour in June last year but it spiralled out of control when banter between them became aggressive.
Corkin, who was high on drugs and booze, punched his former pal to the ground and while they were scuffling wrongly thought their female companion had tried to attack him.
He then turned his attentions to her, strangling her and forcing her to the floor, causing her tooth to chip during the struggle.

Corkin, a full time construction worker, was arrested and cautioned the following day, on June 24, but scenes turned ugly when he was being transported to the police station. He racially abused the police officer and asked him if he was Muslim.
The officer told Corkin, of Naworth Terrace, Jarrow, to stop but the defendant continued, calling him a “dirty, P*** c***, a horrible, smelly c*** who rapes babies”, prosecutor Miah Nath told Newcastle Crown Court.
“He told him he would never be English and then started to chant Tommy Robinson,” added Ms Nath.
The officer said in his victim impact statement that he found his language ‘abhorrent’, adding: “While I’m not of Muslim or Pakistani heritage, he made reference to my dark hair and brown eyes and clearly believed me to be non-white.
“There is no place in society for such hate speech... and he clearly found his racist remarks amusing.”
Corkin pleaded guilty to two counts of actual bodily harm, one of strangulation and one of racially aggravated harassment, was jailed for 12 months, which was suspended for 18 months.
He was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and to pay £500 in compensation the male victim he assaulted, and £1000 to the female.
