Man in hospital after stabbing outside shop in Jarrow

Northumbria Police have launched an investigation after a 30-year-old man was found with injuries “consistent with a stabbing” outside a shop on the Scotch Estate.

The incident happened at around 6.30am on Tuesday, August 18 outside the Londis supermarket on Edinburgh Road in Jarrow.

A double crew ambulance, along with two hazardous area response teams from the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) were called to the scene on the Scotch Estate to treat the man, who police say, had injuries consistent with a stabbing.

Paramedics took the injured man to hospital and police have confirmed that inquires are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 6.30am today (Tuesday) we received a report that a man had been assaulted at an address on Edinburgh Road, Jarrow.

“Officers attended the scene and found a 30-year-old man with injuries consistent with a stabbing. He was taken to hospital.

“An investigation has been launched into the incident and inquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for the NEAS added: “We received a call at 6.32am to a patient injuried outside Londis supermarket on Edinburgh Road in Jarrow.

"We dispatched a double crew ambulance and two hazardous area response teams.”

At this time, it is not known at this time how serious the man’s injuries are.
