Men due in court after knife-point robbery on car parked up in South Shields street

Shortly before 5pm on Tuesday, January 26, Northumbria Police received a report of an armed robbery that had taken place on Cook Close, off South Eldon Street, in South Shields.
It was reported that two male victims were sat in a car when two men walked out of a block of flats and demanded money while armed with kitchen knives.

Hide AdOne of the victims fled on foot, while the other male had his mobile phone snatched from him – before the attackers left the scene.
Police say all parties were known to each other.
Officers were on the scene within six minutes and began searching for those responsible.
Within minutes, officers had two suspects – aged 38 and 18 - in the back of a police van and they were taken into custody.
Both men have since been charged with robbery and are due to appear before the courts today, Thursday, January 28.

Hide AdChief Inspector Nicola Wearing, of Northumbria Police, said: “This was excellent work by our response cops who acted swiftly and decisively to detain two suspected robbers.
“Violent crimes such as this are totally unacceptable and have no place on our streets.
“It is therefore vital that those suspected to have committed these offences are quickly detained, interviewed and put before the courts.
“I would like to thank the officers who attended the scene so quickly and followed their instinct in order to secure a positive outcome, and the two suspects will now appear before the courts.”

Hide AdA 38-year-old man has been charged with robbery and possessing a pointed article, while an 18-year-old man has been charged with robbery, attempted robbery and possessing a pointed article.
They are both due to appear before magistrates in South Tyneside today.
