South Shields man who shouted abuse at police officers convicted of being drunk and disorderly

Lee Taylor ranted at officers when they attended an address in South Shields.

He told police that a man called ‘Des’ had punched him and tried to get them to arrest him.

However Taylor became aggressive towards the officers and was then himself arrested, a court was told.

The incident took place in Beach Road in South Shields on Wednesday, July 3, this year, according to the prosecutor Glenda Beck.

Taylor, 30, of Beach Road, did not appear in court before the magistrates in person.

Instead he was found guilty of being drunk and disorderly in his absence at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

Ms Beck said: “[Police attended] a report of trouble with a male.

“Taylor had been being aggressive and abusive, shouting that he had been punched by a man named Des and demanded that he be arrested.

“He became more agitated and started to be abusive.”

Taylor was warned about swearing in public but continued his tirade, the court heard. He was then arrested.

After being arrested he became apologetic about his behaviour, the court was told.

The bench at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court found the charge of of being drunk and disorderly proven against Taylor in his absence.

They then proceeded to sentence him.

Taylor was given a conditional discharge for 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay £85 prosecution costs and a £21 victim surcharge.
