South Tyneside is hosting a 'shakedown run' to help competitors prepare for Great North Run
This is worth joining if you’re preparing to take on the Great North Run
A ‘shakeout run’ will take place in South Tyneside a few days ahead of the Great North Run, as an ideal way to limber up for the big day.
A shakeout run is the perfect way to get moving before legendary half-marathon, which has its finish line in the borough. It’s a chance to stretch the legs, shake off the nerves and share the excitement with fellow runners as the countdown to the race begins.
There are seven of them dotted around the North East, including one at Ferry View on the River Tyne, beside the South Shields terminal of the Shields Ferry.
Meet at Ferry View on Monday, September 7 at 6.30pm for a 7pm set off.
Three groups will each start the 4.7km run together. It ends at North Marine Park, close to the beach.
The shakeout run is free to join and open to anyone, regardless of whether they have entered the Great North Run or not. It is a relaxed run with no steps and no one finishes alone.
Neighbouring areas with a shakedown run include STACK Seaburn in Sunderland and Blaydon Rugby Club.
Organisers say: “Get ready for a relaxed run, friendly faces and the chance to be part of something bigger before the big day.”
The shakeout runs are presented by deodorant brand Mitchum. Participants can enjoy product samples and giveaways from Mitchum at each event.
The Great North Run itself takes place on Sunday, September 13 beginning in Newcastle and ending on the glorious coast of South Shields.
