Hebburn care home teams up with the community for a Tower of London-inspired Remembrance display
Care home residents, volunteers and the local community have come together to create Hebburn’s own Tower of London-inspired Remembrance tribute.
A Hebburn care home has worked with the local community to create its very own Tower of London-inspired Remembrance display.
Thousands of handmade poppies adorn the front of Hawthorn Court, on St Aloysius View, following six months of work to create the tribute.

Having been inspired by the Tower of London’s famous poppy display, an appeal was launched by the care home’s wellbeing coordinator which saw local volunteers join the home’s Tuesday Knit and Knatter group to help make the poppies.
Their work has seen the creation of an impressive display outside the care home’s main building and gives Hebburn another place to pause, reflect and remember those who served and sacrificed.
Among the red poppies are purple poppies to honour animals who served, as well as white poppies representing peace.
Hawthorn Court is home to five veterans to served in the Armed Forces, meaning Remembrance holds an even greater significant for those at the home.

Emma Riley, Home Manager at Hawthorn Court, said: “What started as a poppy appeal has become something incredibly special. The work and effort that have gone into this display are phenomenal, and it is a testament to the dedication of everyone involved.
“I want to thank every member of the community who contributed, our wonderful volunteers, our amazing wellbeing team and, of course, our residents. They have put so much time, care and pride into making this happen.

“With five veterans living at Hawthorn Court, this tribute feels especially meaningful. I am very proud of our team and everyone who has helped us bring a little of the Tower of London’s inspiration to Hebburn.”
