Mystery continues over man found unconscious at the side of a road in Jarrow

Mystery still surrounds how a man ended up unconscious at the side of a road in South Tyneside.

Police were called to Grange Road in Jarrow just before 7am on Wednesday after being called to the area by an ambulance crew.

A 53-year-old man was found seriously injured and was taken to a hospital in Newcastle.

His condition is currently described by police as stable.

Meanwhile, officers are still trying to piece together how the man came to be injured at the side of the road and are appealing for the public's help.

A police spokesman said: “Inquiries are still ongoing to establish how the man sustained these injuries.”
