Newcastle's Florian Lejeune delivers personal update after Rafa Benitez reveals long-term injury

Florian Lejeune has tweeted a message to Newcastle United after Rafa Benitez revealed that the defender is facing a long spell on the sidelines.

The defender, signed from Eibar last summer, today took to Twitter to assure fans he will return "as quickly as possible".

"During my last training session, I left the field due to an injury," said the 27-year-old.

"After further medical examination, the doctor told me I have a cruciate ligament injury.

"I'll have surgery in the next few days. I'll do everything I can to get back as quickly as possible on St James' Park."
