‘Celebrate partnerships’ - Nissan throw backing behind event run by South Tyneside chief
Nissan are backing an event led by a South Tyneside-based chief.
A leading automotive body – led by a South Tyneside-based chairman – will be backed by Nissan when it holds a major promotional event.

The Sunderland car maker has agreed to be a headline speaker at the North East Automotive Alliance’s (NEAA) Expo 2026 show in September.
The NEAA has heralded the firm’s participation as a “major addition” to its programme and a reflection of the strength of the region’s automotive cluster.
Attendees will gain key insight into the motor industry from Nissan, which is marking 40 years of operations on Wearside.
‘Unlock future growth opportunities’
The event will bring together vehicle manufacturers, suppliers, technology providers and industry stakeholders from across the supply chain.
They will explore the latest developments in the automotive sector, forge new partnerships and unlock future growth opportunities.
In total, over 100 exhibitors from across the motor sector supply chain are expected to take part, and there will also be a programme of industry presentations.
Visitors can uniquely also experience a selection of British-built Nissan vehicles through outdoor demonstrations and test drives.
Martin Kendall, 59, who lives in Cleadon, was recently appointed chair of the NEAA, the UK’s largest automotive body.
Paul Butler, its chief executive, said of Expo 2026: “The North East Automotive Expo has become a key fixture of the automotive industry's calendar, bringing together businesses from across the supply chain to share expertise, explore opportunities and build valuable connections.
“Nissan's participation is a significant addition to this year's programme, particularly as we recognise their 40-year presence in the region.
“EXPO 2026 will provide even greater opportunities for businesses to engage with industry leaders, strengthen relationships and drive future growth.”
‘Celebrate partnerships’
Alan Johnson, Senior Vice President Manufacturing, Nissan said: “The North East has been Nissan’s home for four decades and our success is built on the strength, skill and resilience of the region’s people and supply chain.
“We’re delighted to be part of the North East Automotive Expo 2026 and to celebrate the partnerships that continue to drive growth and innovation across the sector.
“This event showcases the best of the region, and we’re excited to contribute to that story.”
Expo 2026 is at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland on Thursday, 24 September.
