Dramatic photos show late night cliff rescue in South Shields

One person has been taken to hospital after falling from a cliff in South Shields.

Emergency services were called to the Frenchman’s Bay area of the coast at around 8.40pm on Friday, May 29, following reports that a person had fallen from a cliff.

South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade shared photos of the floodlit rescue on Facebook.

South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade and Sunderland Coastguard worked alongside Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service to carry out a rope rescue.

Emergency services rescued a person who had fallen from a cliff in the Frenchman's Bay area of South Shields.

The person was then to hospital by the North East Ambulance Service who had sent a Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.

On its post, the South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade reminded the public that in all coastal emergencies dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
