New name for Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall's South Shields bar

Red Door, in Ocean Road, only opened late at the beginning of November last year but now it is changing its name to Arbeia – the Roman name for South Shields.

A statement on the bar’s Facebook page says: “We have changed the name of our bar to Arbeia South Shields, formerly known as Red Door South Shields.

“This now has a direct link with our town (Roman Fort) as well as a link with our nightclub ‘Industry’, which will we be launching on the 27th March 2020.

“We will be announcing the full details for the launch party, very soon.

“As we are rebranding, we have taken the opportunity to listen to our customers. Therefore, we have revised our drinks menu & PRICES. We appreciate everyone’s feedback.

“We know at times our bar has been extremely busy, so we have made the decision to have a new bottle and beer bar installed, which will reduce your waiting time.

“We have live music EVERY Friday, Saturday & Sunday along with a new fantastic resident DJ, Steve Turnbull.

“Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend and it is business as usual.”

Jade, fellow South Shields-born bandmate Perrie Edwards, and Leigh-Anne Pinnock celebrated the end of the North East leg of their LM5 Tour with a trip to the new venue before its official opening.

The 350-capacity venue is owned by Jade and was being operated by Red Door, who also have successful bars based in Liverpool and Chester.

Jade said: “I’m proud to come from South Shields. I love my home town and wanted to invest in the local economy. South Shields is a unique place with a lot to offer and I wanted to support that.

“I come back here to see my family and friends as often as I can. South Shields has always been known for being a great night out - it’s a town with a real party spirit.”
