South Shields Halifax branch closes after staff member tests positive for coronavirus

Staff at Halifax, on Ocean Road, are self-isolating following their colleague’s positive Covid-19 test result, Halifax has confirmed.

The bank was unable to say when the South Shields branch would reopen, with the bank set to remain closed until further notice.

It comes as cases across South Tyneside continue to rise, with total of 1,847 coronavirus cases confirmed in the borough by Public Health England on Tuesday, September 28.

A Halifax spokesman said: “We have temporarily closed the Halifax branch on Ocean Road after a colleague was diagnosed with Covid-19.

"Our priority is the wellbeing of our colleagues and customers and we continue to follow Government guidance.

"As a number of our colleagues are now self-isolating we’re unable to open the branch, but we’ll reopen as soon as we can."
