Hide AdHebburn Helps co-founder, Jo Durkin, told The Gazette that Sainsbury’s contacted her around four weeks ago regarding the initiative.
She said the new collection point will provide a huge boost and allow people another opportunity to donate to the cause.
"It all just came from an email a few weeks ago, and then a ‘Meet and Greet’ – everything went from there, really,” she said.
"It’s absolutely brilliant – it means that, even if people can’t make it to our [South Tyneside] centre, they can still pop something in and help us out if they’re in Newcastle.”
