Who England could face as they head for the latter stages of Euro 2020 if they beat Scotland

If England were to beat the Scots – and they are odds on to do so – then they would be likely to win Group D.

This would give them a tough last-16 tie against the runners-up in Group F; one of world champions France, European champions Portugal, six-times Euro finalists Germany and Hungary, at 5pm on Tuesday, June 29 at Wembley.

If they win that and they would play a quarter-final at 8pm, Saturday, July 3 in (Rome) leading to a possible semi-final 8pm, Tuesday on July 7 (Wembley).

Should England finish second in Group D, they would then play against the runners-up in Group E (Spain / Sweden / Poland / Slovakia) 5pm on Monday, June 28 (in Copenhagen).

Should they win that they would then play a quarter-final at 5pm on Friday, July 2 in (in St Petersburg) leading to a possible semi-final at 8pm, Tuesday, July 6 (Wembley).

Should England finish third, they could still face the Group E (Spain / Sweden / Poland / Slovakia) winners 8pm, Tuesday, June 29 (Hampden). This would be if they were one of the four best of the six third-placed teams.

Win that and they would play a quarter-final at 8pm, Saturday, July 3 (Rome) leading to a possible semi-final at 8pm, Tuesday, July 7 (Wembley).

The final is at Wembley at 8pm on Sunday, July 11.

Should England lose to Scotland, Group D would be wide open, especially if Croatia beat the Czech Republic (5pm, June 18, Hampden) as this would leave every team on three points going into the last group fixtures.

Hopes are high for England after beating Croatia in their opening game, while Scotland lost 2-0 to the Czechs at Hampden.

However, Scotland have a decent record historically against England. There have been 114 meetings between the two since 1872. England have won 48, Scotland 41 with 25 draws. Their last meeting was a 2-2 draw at Hampden in 2017, with England needing an injury time equaliser.

Scotland’s last Wembley win was a 1-0 victory in 1999 with Don Hutchison heading the winner.

All Euro 2020 matches will be televised live on either BBC or ITV.

The bookies now make England 6/1 joint second favourites, along with Belgium and Italy, to win the tournament outright behind France at 7/2. Germany are now 11/1.

Odds as long as 350/1 are now available for Scotland, but Wales have drawn and won their opening two games and have dropped from 200/1 to 80/1.

England v Scotland, 8pm, Friday, June 18 (Wembley).

England v Czech Republic, 8pm Tuesday, June 22 (Wembley).
